Google’s Gemini app can check videos to see if they were made with Google AI
Summary
Google has expanded the AI verification feature in its Gemini app to include videos created or edited using the company's own AI models. Users can prompt Gemini to check if a video was generated using Google AI, and Gemini will scan the video and audio for SynthID, Google's proprietary and supposedly "imperceptible" watermark. The response will specify the exact timestamps where the watermark is detected, rather than just a simple yes or no. This capability follows the November rollout for images made with Google AI. While Google embeds C2PA metadata in its Nano Banano AI image model, the general lack of coordinated AI tagging across social media platforms remains a challenge for detecting deepfakes. Gemini currently supports video verification for files up to 100 MB and 90 seconds in length, and the feature is available globally where the Gemini app operates.
