Gemini’s new beta feature provides proactive responses based on your photos, emails, and more

Google is rolling out a new beta feature in the Gemini app called 'Personal Intelligence' that allows the AI assistant to proactively tailor responses by connecting across the user's Google ecosystem, including Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube history. While Gemini could previously retrieve data, this feature enables it to reason across this data to provide contextually relevant answers without explicit prompting. The feature is opt-in and off by default, with Google emphasizing that it will only use this access when it determines it will be helpful. Josh Woodward, VP at Google Labs, highlighted its strength in reasoning across complex sources, citing examples where Gemini identified tire sizes by referencing road trip photos or retrieved a license plate number from a picture. Google stated that sensitive data like health information is protected by guardrails, and the data from these apps is referenced only to generate a response, not used for direct model training. Personal Intelligence is currently rolling out to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S., with plans for expansion.
