X claims it has stopped Grok from undressing people, but of course it hasn’t

Following the proliferation of nonconsensual sexual deepfakes, X announced technological measures and policy updates to prevent the Grok account from editing images of real people into revealing attire, such as bikinis. These changes included restricting image editing to paid subscribers only and geoblocking the generation of such images in jurisdictions where it is illegal, as UK regulator Ofcom began an investigation. However, tests conducted by reporters on Wednesday indicated that these restrictions were ineffective, as it was still relatively easy to generate revealing deepfakes using a free Grok account, contradicting X and Elon Musk's claims that problems were due to user requests or adversarial hacking.
