Mira Murati's startup, Thinking Machines Lab, is experiencing a significant leadership change as two of its co-founders, CTO Barret Zoph and Luke Metz, are departing to rejoin OpenAI. OpenAI CEO of applications, Fidji Simo, confirmed the return of Zoph and Metz, along with another former Thinking Machines staffer, Sam Schoenholz. Murati announced Zoph's departure but initially omitted Metz's. Soumith Chintala will replace Zoph as CTO at Thinking Machines. This simultaneous departure of two co-founders, less than a year after the startup's founding and securing a $2 billion seed round, is considered a notable setback, especially given the high-profile team the company had assembled from former AI giants.
