90% of Salesforce’s Engineers Use Cursor Every Day

Cursor, an AI-powered coding tool, is utilized daily by over 90% of Salesforce's 20,000+ engineers, leading to a 30% increase in pull request (PR) velocity. Shan Appajodu, SVP of engineering at Salesforce, noted that Cursor has fundamentally transformed how developers improve product quality. Although Salesforce previously invested in internal AI tools like 'CodeGenie,' it made Cursor available to offer engineers diverse options. Junior engineers, many of whom started remotely during the pandemic, were early adopters, using Cursor to quickly understand the codebase when senior mentorship was limited. Senior engineers initially used it for repetitive tasks but quickly expanded its use to higher-value work. Adoption spread rapidly across teams. In one specific application, a team maintaining data infrastructure used Cursor to accelerate testing across a legacy codebase, reducing unit test development time from 26 engineer days per module to just four, achieving an 85% productivity gain.
