Adobe is developing “IP-safe” gen AI models for the entertainment industry
Summary
Adobe is developing Firefly Foundry, a suite of private, IP-safe generative AI "omni-models" tailored for the entertainment industry, announced in time for the Sundance Film Festival. These models are designed to accelerate creativity without infringing on ownership by being trained only on intellectual property that the clients own the rights to, unlike public models trained on scraped internet data. Firefly Foundry aims to generate various assets, including audio-aware videos and 3D/vector graphics, seamlessly integrated into Adobe workflows like Premiere. According to Adobe's VP of genAI new business ventures, Hannah Elaskr, this initiative addresses the need from major companies like Disney for models that understand specific products and characters in video and 3D contexts. Adobe is collaborating with major talent agencies (CAA, UTA, WME), directors (David Ayer, Jaume Collet-Serra), and production houses, alongside educational institutions, to integrate this responsible AI adoption across all production stages.
