White House posts digitally altered image of woman arrested after ICE protest

The White House posted a digitally altered image of Nekima Levy Armstrong, who was arrested following a protest against an ICE field director in St Paul, Minnesota. A Guardian analysis found that the image, posted shortly after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem shared an original photo, showed Armstrong appearing to cry and having darker skin, whereas in the original, she appeared composed. Overlays confirmed the images were identical except for the alterations. When questioned, the White House deputy communications director, Kaelan Dorr, responded defiantly, stating that law enforcement and "memes will continue." The White House X account has reportedly made at least 14 posts using AI since the start of Trump's second term.
