The new era of browsing: Putting Gemini to work in Chrome

Google is launching major updates to Gemini in Chrome for MacOS, Windows, and Chromebook Plus, built on the Gemini 3 model, introducing a new side panel for multitasking and easier access to assistance across tabs. New features include transforming images using Nano Banana directly within the browser and deeper integrations with Google Apps like Gmail and Calendar via Connected Apps to streamline multi-step workflows. A key upcoming feature is Personal Intelligence, which will offer contextually relevant, proactive help based on past conversations (opt-in required). Furthermore, for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., Google is introducing Chrome Auto Browse, an agentic feature capable of handling complex, multi-step chores like optimizing travel planning or filling out forms. Chrome will also support the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard for agentic commerce. Security is prioritized, with Auto Browse designed to pause and explicitly ask for user confirmation before sensitive actions like purchases.
