Firefox is adding a switch to turn AI features off

Mozilla is adding an "AI control" option to Firefox settings starting February 24th, allowing users to disable or enable individual AI features. These features include a built-in AI chatbot, translation capabilities, and AI tab group suggestions. This move follows Firefox's integration of AI tools like the "shake to summarize" feature and ongoing work on an "AI Window." Mozilla CEO Anthony Enzor-DeMeo had previously promised an AI "kill switch" in response to user concerns about the browser's embrace of AI, emphasizing that "choice matters." The new control will allow users to manage all current and future AI features, including AI-generated alt text for PDF images and key points for link previews, reflecting the company's commitment to user choice amidst varied community desires for AI tools.
