OpenAI says 18- to 24-year-olds account for nearly 50% of ChatGPT usage in India

OpenAI reported that users between 18 and 24 years old account for almost 50% of ChatGPT messages in India, with those under 30 making up 80% of usage. Indians primarily use ChatGPT for work (35% of messages), exceeding the global average, and show particularly high engagement with the Codex coding assistant, using it three times more than the global median. India is OpenAI's second-largest market with over 100 million weekly users. To further expand its presence, OpenAI is opening new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru this year and has secured a major partnership with Tata Group for AI compute capacity and enterprise distribution, alongside agreements with several other major Indian companies and educational institutions.
