‘An AlphaFold 4’ – scientists marvel at DeepMind drug spin-off’s exclusive new AI

Isomorphic Labs, the biopharmaceuticals spin-off of Google DeepMind, has announced a new, highly advanced artificial-intelligence model for drug discovery called IsoDDE. While a technical report released on February 10th detailed impressive achievements, such as precise predictions of how proteins interact with potential drugs and antibody structures, the model is proprietary and its inner workings are being kept secret. Scientists, including computational biologist Mohammed AlQuraishi, are marveling at the advance, comparing it to a potential "AlphaFold 4." Unlike the publicly accessible AlphaFold systems, IsoDDE's exclusivity means researchers lack insight into its methods. The report claims IsoDDE outperforms existing models like the open-source Boltz-2 and traditional physics-based methods in predicting binding affinity, and AlQuraishi noted its impressive ability to predict interactions for molecules vastly different from its training data, suggesting novel techniques were employed.
