Canva acquires startups working on animation and marketing
Summary
Creative suite maker Canva announced the dual acquisition of UK-based animation startup Cavalry and stealth startup MangoAI, which focuses on improving ad performance using reinforcement learning systems.
The acquisition of Cavalry aims to integrate motion editing capabilities into Canva's professional suite, complementing the existing photo, vector, and layout editing tools inherited from the 2024 acquisition of Affinity. Canva stated that Cavalry and Affinity together form the foundation of a "full-stack Creative OS" for professionals.
MangoAI, co-founded by former Netflix and Roblox data scientists Nirmal Govind and Vinith Misra, will see Govind become Canva's first "Chief Algorithms Officer." This move, alongside previous acquisitions like Magicbrief, signals Canva's intent to bolster its marketing solutions, potentially adding video creation and more granular measurement capabilities. Canva ended 2025 with $4 billion in annualized revenue and over 265 million users.
