Google and Samsung just launched the AI features Apple couldn’t with Siri

Google has announced that Gemini will soon gain agentic AI capabilities, enabling it to handle multi-step tasks such as ordering food or hailing a ride, initially launching on Pixel 10/Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 phones. During a demonstration, Google's Sameer Samat showed Gemini analyzing a group chat to determine pizza orders and then using a delivery app like GrubHub to prepare the order, only requiring the user to press the final submit button. This move positions Gemini as a productivity partner, building on its recent ability to auto-browse in Chrome. These agentic features directly challenge the impressive, yet still unreleased, features Apple showcased for Siri at WWDC 2024, such as cross-app actions and context-aware requests. Apple delayed those features in March 2025, and some may not arrive until iOS 27. While Google's new Gemini features are launching as a beta with questions remaining about developer integration (the "DoorDash problem"), Google appears to have significantly leapfrogged Apple in delivering these advanced assistant functionalities.
