Trump claims he’ll make data centers pay for their own power supply

This initiative mandates that these massive companies must build, bring, or buy their own power supply for new AI data centers to address concerns over rising electricity costs. While some companies, like Anthropic and Microsoft, have already made voluntary commitments to cover new power plant costs, details on accountability are scarce. Data center electricity demand is expected to double or triple by 2028, contributing to recent national electricity bill increases, and local pushback is already delaying projects.
