Figma is integrating OpenAI's AI coding tool, Codex, to allow users to create and modify designs within coding environments.

Summary

Figma is partnering with OpenAI to integrate the AI coding tool, Codex, enabling users to seamlessly create and tweak designs directly from their coding environments. This follows a similar recent partnership with Anthropic for Claude Code integration. The integration allows users to move easily between Figma designs and Codex code using Figma’s MCP (Mobile Context Protocol) server, building upon previous capabilities where users could bring Figma details into Codex for implementation. Figma's Chief Design Officer, Loredan Crisan, stated this combination allows teams to build on their best ideas by merging code with Figma's creativity and collaboration. Codex Product Lead Alexander Embiricos added that the integration broadens Codex's appeal by allowing engineers to iterate visually and designers to work closer to implementation without becoming full-time coders. OpenAI launched Codex last year, integrating it into ChatGPT and recently releasing a dedicated MacOS app which saw a million downloads in its first week.
