NXP Posts New Linux Accelerator Driver For Their Neutron NPU
Summary
NXP has submitted a new open-source Linux kernel driver for review to support its Neutron Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which is designed for machine learning acceleration in edge AI applications and is featured in select NXP SoCs like the i.MX95. The Neutron NPU architecture includes a RISC-V core running proprietary firmware, Neutron cores, dedicated fast memory, and a DMA engine. Alongside the kernel driver, NXP also provided an open-source user-space library and a custom LiteRT delegate to enable running LiteRT (formerly TensorFlow-Lite) workloads on the NPU.
