Teens sue Elon Musk’s xAI over Grok’s AI-generated CSAM

Three Tennessee teenagers have filed a proposed class action lawsuit against Elon Musk’s xAI, claiming that the Grok AI chatbot generated sexualized images and videos of them as minors. The lawsuit alleges that xAI leaders knew Grok, especially in its “spicy mode,” would produce AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM) when launched. One plaintiff, identified as “Jane Doe 1,” discovered explicit, AI-generated images of herself and others on Discord, which the perpetrator allegedly used to trade for other minors' explicit content. The suit contends that xAI failed to test its safety features, making Grok "defective in design." This action follows intense scrutiny of Grok after it produced explicit images, leading to calls for investigations by the FTC and EU. The victims' lawyer stated they intend to hold xAI accountable for turning children's photos into CSAM traded among predators, and the lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction to stop xAI from generating such content.
