Microsoft appoints a new Copilot boss after AI leadership shakeup

Microsoft is reorganizing its Copilot engineering teams to create a more cohesive experience across consumer and commercial products. This leadership shakeup moves Jacob Andreou to lead the unified Copilot experience across both segments, reporting directly to CEO Satya Nadella. Nadella stated this unification spans four pillars: Copilot experience, platform, Microsoft 365 apps, and AI models, aiming for an integrated system. Concurrently, AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman will shift his focus to creating Microsoft’s proprietary AI models, moving away from direct oversight of consumer Copilot features. This restructuring follows years where consumer and business Copilots operated separately with distinct features. The changes also leave the leadership of teams like Edge, Bing, and MSN, which previously reported to Suleyman, uncertain, and come shortly after other high-profile executive retirements within the company.
