NSA spies are reportedly using Anthropic’s Mythos, despite Pentagon feud

The National Security Agency (NSA) is reportedly utilizing Anthropic’s restricted "Mythos" model, a cybersecurity-focused AI that was withheld from public release due to its offensive capabilities. This development follows the Department of Defense labeling Anthropic a "supply chain risk" after the company restricted Pentagon access to its models to prevent use in autonomous weapons and mass surveillance. While the Pentagon maintains a contentious relationship with the AI firm, the NSA is reportedly using Mythos for vulnerability scanning, alongside access granted to organizations like the UK’s AI Security Institute. Concurrently, Anthropic is seeing a potential warming of relations with the current administration, evidenced by high-level meetings between CEO Dario Amodei and top White House officials.
