Fortnite developers can make AI characters now — just don’t try to date them

Epic Games has launched a new experimental tool called "conversations" that enables Fortnite creators to design AI-powered characters capable of unscripted interactions. Using Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite models and ElevenLabs for voice, these NPCs can act as narrators or quest givers based on developer prompts. To ensure safety, Epic has implemented strict rules prohibiting creators from designing characters that offer medical advice or act as romantic partners. While the technology represents a significant evolution for the platform, the feature is currently in an experimental phase, and there is no confirmed timeline for when these experiences will be available for public publishing.
