Anthropic has released Opus 5, the latest iteration of its heavy model lineup, arriving just two months after Opus 4.8. Although smaller than Fable 5, Opus 5 outperforms it on multiple benchmarks while offering lower costs and fewer privacy restrictions, such as exemption from the 30-day data retention policy. While critical cybersecurity safeguards remain, Anthropic expects safety classifiers to trigger 85% less often, and the company is introducing an "Automatic Fallbacks" beta feature to seamlessly route blocked requests to less powerful models.
