Adobe embraces conversational AI editing, marking a ‘fundamental shift’ in creative work

Adobe is introducing its Firefly AI Assistant, a conversational AI tool that allows creators to edit their work using descriptive text prompts instead of manually operating Creative Cloud applications. This represents a "fundamental shift" by lowering skill barriers and automating laborious tasks while maintaining creative control. The assistant, building on Project Moonlight, can perform complex, multi-step workflows across various Adobe apps like Photoshop and Premiere. Users can issue commands such as "retouch this image," and the AI will offer edits and suggest tools. The assistant can learn user preferences for personalized results and users can create custom "Creative Skills." This move follows Adobe's integration of AI assistants into Acrobat, Express, and Photoshop, and will extend to third-party apps like Anthropic's Claude. The announcement also includes new Firefly platform features for image, video, and audio editing, such as integration with Adobe Stock and tools for improving color and dialogue clarity.
