Inspired by local controversies in The Dalles, Oregon—where Google’s data centers face scrutiny over water usage—Reksopuro aims to demystify these facilities for the public. Her map, which pulls data from legislation and news sources, highlights the significant disparity in how different regions regulate and incentivize the tech industry, ranging from Maine's attempts at moratoriums to Texas's massive tax exemptions. Reksopuro advocates for increased transparency, arguing that informed communities are better positioned to negotiate for benefits like job training and environmental protections.
