Amazon is upgrading its autonomous Proteus warehouse robot to feature natural language interaction, allowing employees to issue commands verbally instead of using specialized software. This AI-driven enhancement aims to streamline operations by letting the robot determine task priorities, routes, and timing autonomously. Additionally, the new iteration is designed to operate throughout the entire fulfillment center, rather than being restricted to dock areas. While currently in laboratory testing, Amazon plans to deploy these robots in Europe by the first half of 2027 as part of a broader automation initiative that the company maintains is intended to support, rather than replace, its human workforce.
