Google now lets you chat with Gmail, Docs, and Keep

Google is rolling out AI-powered voice assistant modes for Gmail, Docs, and Keep, enabling users to manage these apps through spoken conversation. The features, named Gmail Live, Docs Live, and Keep Live, build on the Gemini Live experience and are designed to help users find information or complete tasks hands-free.

Gmail Live is focused on retrieving information from your inbox without manually searching through threads. Users can ask questions such as "when is my kid's next school event?," and the assistant will pull details from relevant emails, deliver a verbal summary, and link the sources in an on-screen transcript. It supports follow-up questions and can be interrupted mid-response.

Docs Live assists with formatting and structuring documents based on conversational prompts. It can summarize longer texts or transform them into business proposals, and with permission, it can pull information from Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the web to personalize outputs. Keep Live allows users to dictate notes naturally, with Gemini contextualizing the input—for example, adding "ingredients for pesto" to a shopping list without requiring exact phrasing.

These capabilities were previewed at Google I/O in May and are now rolling out globally in English on mobile. Gmail Live is available on iOS and Android for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, while Docs Live and Keep Live are restricted to AI Pro and Ultra plans. Keep Live is Android-only, whereas Docs Live works on both iOS and Android. All three features are "coming soon" for Workspace business customers.
