Paul Christiano joins OpenAI Foundation Board

Paul Christiano, founder of the Alignment Research Center (ARC) and a Senior Tech Advisor at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has been appointed to the OpenAI Foundation Board. He will serve as a non-voting observer on the OpenAI Group PBC Board and will join the Foundation Board's Safety and Security Committee (SSC). Christiano brings extensive experience in AI safety, having previously led alignment research at OpenAI and contributed to foundational work on reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF). His appointment is intended to strengthen governance by providing a technically grounded perspective that emphasizes safety, security, and alignment, particularly as AI systems become more capable. The OpenAI Foundation, a separate nonprofit, holds control and a significant equity stake in OpenAI Group PBC and is dedicated to ensuring AI benefits all of humanity.
