This doorbell camera lets a human security guard watch your front door

DIY home security company SimpliSafe has launched the Video Doorbell Series 2, a 2K resolution wired doorbell priced at $199.99. The device integrates with the company's Active Guard Outdoor Protection subscription service, starting at $49.99 per month. When the doorbell's AI (combining on-device and cloud-based systems) detects suspicious activity like a potential intruder or package theft, a live SimpliSafe monitoring agent can access the camera feed to see, speak to, and attempt to deter the person. The feature, which was previously available on other SimpliSafe cameras, is opt-in and only activates when the security system is armed and triggered. The company emphasizes that footage is encrypted and will not be shared with law enforcement unless legally required. While similar to Ring's Virtual Guard service, SimpliSafe's offering integrates human verification into its proactive security model.
