Gemini can now call businesses for you so you don't have to wait on hold

Google is launching an "early experiment" feature on Pixel 11 that allows users to delegate phone calls to local businesses to Gemini. Users can ask Gemini via the Gemini app on their Pixel to call a business on their behalf for tasks such as making a reservation, checking if a product is in stock, or rescheduling an appointment. Gemini introduces itself, navigates automated phone menus, waits on hold, and handles the conversation with the person on the other end. Users remain in control at all times with a live transcript view and the ability to take over the conversation at any point. Google announced a similar "Call for me" feature last year but it lacked an option for users to take over those phone calls. Meta is also working on a similar automated phone call feature for its Muse AI agent, although those calls reportedly might be made by a human behind the scenes. The rollout begins today as an early preview for Gemini paid subscribers enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta on Pixel 11 in the US.
