Niantic Spatial and the Singapore Land Authority: Working Together to Explore Creating Singapore's First National Visual Positioning System Map

Niantic Spatial and the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly evaluate the technical feasibility and potential applications of building Singapore's first Visual Positioning System (VPS). SLA, Singapore's national geospatial and mapping agency, maintains authoritative high-resolution mapping data including aerial imagery and nationwide 3D point clouds. The collaboration combines SLA's datasets with Niantic Spatial's expertise in geospatial AI, computer vision, and visual positioning technologies to explore whether national datasets combined with advanced visual positioning technology can enable robots and machines to navigate the physical world more precisely. The partners will also assess VPS performance across Singapore's unique urban landscape and explore applications in autonomous navigation, robotics, urban planning, emergency response, public safety, and location-based digital experiences. Inhi Cho Suh, Chief Executive of Niantic Spatial, stated that the pilot tests whether national investment can become infrastructure machines use to navigate safely, serving as a blueprint for trustworthy physical AI at national scale. Calvin Phua, Chief Executive of SLA, noted that combining trusted national datasets with advanced positioning technologies can enable next-generation applications and deliver tangible benefits.
