Helping teens learn, plan, and shape the future of AI

OpenAI
OpenAI shares early progress on ChatGPT for Teens, introduces College Planner, and expands teen-focused learning tools.

Summary

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT for Teens, providing a default experience for users under 18, and reports that teens with access sent about 2.7 million more learning-related messages than those without. The most popular conversation starters focus on developing ideas, getting feedback, and checking evidence. In a single week, nearly 1.2 million teens used Learning Visualizations, and over 180,000 used Study Mode. Built-in break reminders help keep daily usage under 15 minutes on average. OpenAI is adding College Planner to help US high school students manage applications, deadlines, and financial aid, and is supporting College Advising Corps to expand advising in under-resourced schools. OpenAI is also partnering with Boston Children's Hospital's Digital Wellness Lab to form a Student Advisory Council, giving teens a voice in AI design. New study tools include continuous multi-photo capture to turn notes into PDFs, plus flashcards and quizzes.
