Microsoft is giving Copilot more control over Windows and your files
Summary
At its Windows and Surface event, Microsoft announced an upgrade to its Copilot AI that grants it access to local files and the ability to act across Windows, a concept Microsoft calls Hybrid Intelligence, where apps mix local and cloud AI models for efficient task completion. Jacob Andreou, Microsoft's EVP of Copilot, demonstrated this with a video of the Autopilot tool handling tax filing: after being told about an email from an accountant, it searched folders, renamed files, zipped them, and drafted an email with the zip attached. Hybrid Intelligence features will reach Copilot in the next couple months. Microsoft also previewed a new Windows search experience allowing quick actions like enabling dark mode, adjusting mic volume with an in-line slider, or sending a text, arriving this fall on Windows 11.
