Everything announced at Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra event
Summary
At a Windows and Surface keynote in San Francisco, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its new flagship laptop powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark Arm-based chip. The device starts at $2,599 with an 8-core CPU, 24GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage, and launches October 16th. It features a 15-inch HDR touchscreen with up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, a larger haptic trackpad, and built-in magnetic USB-C charging called Magnetic Connect, replacing the proprietary Surface Connect port.
Microsoft also opened preorders for the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a $5,999 mini PC for developers that ships in November with Nvidia’s Arm-based RTX Spark platform and 128GB of unified memory, optimized for local AI workloads including models exceeding 120B parameters. In addition, Microsoft detailed Windows updates under the “Hybrid Intelligence” banner, giving Copilot access to local PC files and the ability to take actions across the OS, plus a new search experience for quick actions from the search bar.
The event highlighted Microsoft’s deepening partnership with Nvidia, with appearances by CEO Satya Nadella, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Windows and Surface chief Pavan Davuluri. Microsoft also announced that Meta’s new AI agent Muse is coming to Windows as a native app, though no timeline was given. The Surface Laptop Ultra and Dev Box position both companies at the premium end of the laptop market, targeting creative software, gaming, and local AI tasks.
