Google is launching a one-stop Gemini agent for your work tasks
Summary
Google announced a "universal" Gemini AI agent at its Gemini at Work event on Thursday. The agent will live inside the Gemini Enterprise app, letting users chat with it and assign tasks from a single interface. Beyond working directly within Workspace apps like Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar, the agent can be accessed from mobile devices, desktops, the web, and third-party apps such as Slack or Microsoft 365. Because it runs in the cloud, Gemini keeps the same context across all connected devices.
Google says the agent can also coordinate with job-specific sub-agents and act as a "coworker agent" with a dedicated identity and its own "@agents.company.com" email address. It automatically selects the AI model that best fits each job. The Gemini agent is currently available only to enterprise customers in private preview, but it hints at Google's broader ambition for an AI assistant that can answer questions and complete work from a single window. This follows the consumer-facing Gemini Spark agent launched in May, which works across Workspace and the web but through a separate interface in the Gemini app.
