Gudea leverages AI to help organizations prevent social media crises before they erupt
Summary
Gudea, a startup describing itself as a "storm tracker for the internet," uses AI to help organizations spot brewing online controversies before they become full-blown crises. Unlike traditional social listening platforms that only track mentions, hashtags, and impressions, Gudea analyzes behavior, relationships, and the pathways through which information travels across more than 500 mainstream and fringe websites and platforms, including X, Reddit, and TikTok, aiming to show who is driving a conversation and where it could be headed. CEO and founder Keith Presley, who founded the company in 2023 with Jonathan Sperber and James Thomin, pitched the mission on the Startup Battlefield stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. The team's origins trace to the George Washington Initiative, a nonprofit established after the 2020 election that adapted intelligence-community tactics to disrupt domestic online information campaigns. Gudea now has nearly 40 clients, including a Fortune 50 telecommunications company, a Fortune 50 retailer, one of the world's largest AI labs, and government agencies. Presley says inauthentic activity has surged, with roughly nine out of ten items it examines now showing signs of it, versus one in four in 2021. Looking ahead, Gudea plans geolocation of narratives down to the city-block level next year and greater customer access to its AI tools. The company recently announced $7 million in seed funding co-led by Mudita Venture Partners and Silicon Road Ventures, bringing total funding to about $15 million.
