Bringing GPT-Rosalind to academic research labs

OpenAI
OpenAI launches the Rosalind Academic Plan, offering eligible academic labs free access to GPT-Rosalind, a life sciences AI model.

Summary

OpenAI has introduced the Rosalind Academic Plan to help academic scientists access GPT-Rosalind, a specialized life sciences model that combines frontier reasoning with the Rosalind workbench for tool orchestration in medicinal chemistry, genomics, and wet-lab assistance. Eligible labs can receive up to 30 Business Standard seats at no cost for up to 12 months, subject to trusted-access approval. The plan aims to accelerate scientific discovery by providing AI tools to academic researchers, supporting foundational work that has historically led to breakthroughs such as the Human Genome Project, CRISPR-Cas9, and mRNA vaccines. Academic labs are already using GPT-Rosalind for protein design and neurodegeneration research. The plan includes access to all commercially available frontier OpenAI models, with research data not used for training by default. Applications are open to U.S. university labs without an existing OpenAI Enterprise agreement, with a rigorous approval process to ensure responsible access. API access is not included, and labs must manage member permissions and compliance.
