Summary

Twelve years after presenting a conversational chatbot called IO at TechCrunch Disrupt, Eugenia Kuyda has launched Wabi, a multiplayer personal AI assistant that shares her original vision of a helpful AI concierge. Her earlier startup, Luka, evolved into Replika, the popular AI companion company, and after leaving her CEO role at Replika she founded Wabi. Wabi 2.0, now available to all users, functions as a messenger app where users keep separate agentic threads for different tasks and long-term goals; the agent itself decides which custom apps to build, such as a weight-loss tracker in a health thread or an events app in a family thread, once connected to email. Kuyda argues that Wabi stands out from rivals like Muse and Instinct through its multi-threaded, multiplayer design, since long single-thread conversations tend to degrade, hallucinate, or lose context. Threads can be shared as group chats, letting partners or family members ask the assistant questions about each other with access scoped to individual chats. Wabi is SOC 2 compliant and runs entirely in the cloud with most data stored in the U.S. It is free for now, with no settled business model, and the company is in talks to raise more funds.
