Google Cloud opens Nvidia Vera Rubin GPU instances, plans 960,000-GPU scale
Summary
Google Cloud and Nvidia Corp. are making A5X cloud instances, built on the NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 platform, generally available next month, with planned expansion to Europe. The A5X instances combine NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs, ConnectX-9 SuperNICs, the Google Cloud Virgo Network, and Google Cloud's fourth-generation advanced liquid-cooling technology, targeting training, inference, and large-scale reinforcement learning workloads. Google Cloud plans to scale its Vera Rubin-based infrastructure to as many as 960,000 Rubin GPUs across multiple sites. Ineffable Intelligence, a London-based company founded by AlphaGo creator David Silver, is the first customer to access A5X, using it to advance large-scale reinforcement learning and develop "superlearner" systems that learn continuously from experience. The rollout follows Nvidia Corp.'s GTC Berlin 2026 keynote on October 21, where the company detailed modular data-center designs and expanded supply-chain commitments.
