Donating Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation
Summary
Anthropic announced it is donating Agent Skills, the open standard it created to give AI agents specialized knowledge and workflows, to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), an entity under the Linux Foundation that Anthropic co-founded with Block and OpenAI. The standard, first published in December 2025 after being developed for Claude Code, has been integrated by more than 70 agent platforms, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and VS Code, with 1 million skills published and nearly 280 million installations. The donation includes the Agent Skills name and logo, its GitHub organization, and the agentskills.io domain. The AAIF will serve as a vendor-neutral home for the standard, with engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and other companies maintaining it as individuals, led by Lead Maintainers David Soria Parra and Mahesh Murag. A proposed roadmap covers versioned releases, a formal proposal process, and security guidance, continuing the community-driven, transparent approach used for the Model Context Protocol. Users can continue to use or contribute to the standard without joining the AAIF.
