Trump orders federal agencies to drop Anthropic’s AI

Donald Trump posted on Truth Social ordering every federal agency to immediately cease using Anthropic's AI technology, accusing the company of trying to "STRONG-ARM" the Pentagon. The dispute stems from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's refusal to agree to an updated Pentagon contract mandating "any lawful use" of their AI, which Amodei believes could enable mass domestic surveillance or lethal autonomous weapons. While OpenAI and xAI have reportedly agreed to the terms, Amodei stated Anthropic cannot in good conscience accede to the request, though they will ensure a smooth transition if the Department of Defense offboards their service. Trump warned Anthropic that if they are not helpful during the mandated six-month phase-out period, he would use the "Full Power of the Presidency" with civil and criminal consequences to ensure compliance.
