Google Search is now using AI to replace headlines

Google has begun an experiment where it uses AI to replace the original headlines of news articles appearing in its standard search results, similar to what it has done in Google Discover. The Verge found examples where their headlines were altered, sometimes changing the intended meaning, such as reducing a complex title to a simple endorsement-like phrase. Google spokespeople confirmed this is a "small" and "narrow" experiment, stating the goal is to "identify content on a page that would be a useful and relevant title to a users’ query" to improve matching and engagement.
