Apple’s AI Playlist Playground is bad at music

Apple’s new AI Playlist Playground beta is proving to be remarkably poor at generating relevant music playlists. Despite specific prompts, such as “atmospheric instrumental black metal,” the AI consistently delivered inaccurate results, including tracks with vocals and genres far removed from the request. Further tests with prompts like “modern ambient black metal from the American South” and “kid-friendly modern hip hop” yielded similarly flawed playlists, often including outdated songs or content inappropriate for children. The AI also demonstrated a lack of geographical awareness and a poor understanding of lyrical themes. While still in beta, the Playlist Playground appears to be significantly behind competitors like YouTube Music and isn’t even ready for a public beta, consistently failing to deliver on user requests or discover new artists.
