OpenAI has acquired TBPN (Technology Business Programming Network), a daily live talk show focused on tech, business, AI, and defense, marking its first media company acquisition. Hosted by John Coogan and Jordi Hays, TBPN has cultivated a strong following in Silicon Valley, attracting prominent tech CEOs like Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman. OpenAI intends to maintain TBPN’s brand and editorial independence while leveraging its communication and marketing expertise. The acquisition is overseen by Chris Lehane, OpenAI’s chief political operative, raising some concerns given his background in political strategy and influence. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman anticipates TBPN will continue to offer critical commentary, and TBPN’s founders express a desire to move beyond commentary to influence the global understanding and distribution of AI.
