OpenAI executive shuffle includes new role for COO Brad Lightcap to lead ‘special projects’

OpenAI is undergoing an executive reshuffle, as announced in a memo by AGI development CEO Fidji Simo. Brad Lightcap, the company’s COO, will transition to a new role leading “special projects,” focusing on complex deals and investments, and will report directly to CEO Sam Altman. Denise Dresser, the recently appointed Chief Revenue Officer, will temporarily assume some of Lightcap’s COO responsibilities. Additionally, Simo announced she will be taking medical leave for several weeks due to a neuroimmune condition, with co-founder Greg Brockman managing product during her absence. Kate Rouch, OpenAI’s marketing head, is stepping down to focus on cancer recovery, with plans to return to a different role when her health permits. OpenAI stated it has a strong leadership team and is well-positioned to maintain momentum despite these changes.
