Google quietly releases an offline-first AI dictation app on iOS

Google has quietly released “Google AI Edge Eloquent,” an offline-first AI dictation app for iOS, aiming to compete with apps like Wispr Flow and SuperWhisper. The free app utilizes Gemma-based ASR models and can operate entirely locally, or leverage cloud-based Gemini models for enhanced text cleanup. It automatically filters out filler words like “um” and “ah,” and offers options to transform text into different formats (key points, formal, short, long). Users can customize the app with keywords from Gmail and add custom words. The app also tracks transcription history, word-per-minute speed, and total words spoken. An Android version is planned, with potential for system-wide integration as a default keyboard and a floating button for easy access.
