Google expands Pentagon’s access to its AI after Anthropic’s refusal

Google has agreed to provide the U.S. Department of Defense with access to its AI technology for classified networks. This development follows Anthropic’s refusal to grant the Pentagon unrestricted use of its models, citing concerns over domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons. While the Department of Defense labeled Anthropic a "supply-chain risk" due to this stance, other firms like OpenAI, xAI, and now Google have moved to secure these contracts. Although Google included language aimed at preventing mass surveillance and autonomous weaponry, experts question the enforceability of these provisions, and the deal has faced significant internal opposition from Google employees.
