Google DeepMind workers are unionizing over AI military contracts

Staffers at Google DeepMind’s London headquarters have voted to unionize to demand that the company cease developing AI for military and surveillance applications. Driven by concerns that their technology may facilitate human rights violations, employees are seeking formal recognition for the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Unite the Union. The workers are demanding an end to contracts that contribute to military harm and requesting the right to abstain from projects that conflict with their ethical standards. This movement follows broader internal protests against Google’s military-industrial partnerships and ongoing collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense.
