SpaceX may spend up to $119 billion on ‘Terafab’ chip factory in Texas

SpaceX is exploring a massive investment, potentially reaching $119 billion, to construct an advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility in Grimes County, Texas. Dubbed “Terafab,” the project aims to integrate chip production for SpaceX, xAI, and Tesla to address the critical shortage of chips required for artificial intelligence servers, autonomous vehicles, and space-based data centers. While Texas is a candidate, Elon Musk has noted that other locations are also being considered. The initiative is driven by Musk's need to secure sufficient computing power for his companies, particularly for the training of xAI's Grok models and future robotics applications.
