Anthropic now has more business customers than OpenAI, according to Ramp data
Summary
According to data from fintech firm Ramp's AI Index, Anthropic has surpassed OpenAI in the number of verified business customers. The survey, based on Ramp's clients' expense data from over 50,000 companies, indicates that 34.4% of participating businesses pay for Anthropic services, compared to 32.3% for OpenAI. This marks the first time Anthropic has taken the top spot. Ramp economist Ara Kharazian noted that Anthropic has been strong in sectors like finance and tech, while OpenAI's lead in other areas is shrinking. Although the data is limited to Ramp users, the trend is seen across the industry, with OpenAI last ranking above Anthropic on OpenRouter's leaderboard in December 2025. Anthropic has seen significant growth over the past year, with its business customer share rising from 9% to 35%, while OpenAI's share slightly declined. Kharazian attributes Anthropic's success to its strategy of initially focusing on technical customers and then expanding through tools like Cowork.
