Marwell Zoo, in collaboration with the University of Surrey, has launched a three-year research project utilizing Artificial Intelligence to track the nocturnal behavior of giraffes and red river hogs. By establishing baseline activity patterns, the AI software aims to alert veterinary teams to health issues or welfare concerns at an early stage. Additionally, the project intends to optimize habitat environments and feeding schedules. If successful, the researchers, including Prof Kevin Wells, hope to expand this technology to other species and broader veterinary applications.
