Vint Cerf is working on a plan to unleash AI agents on the open internet

Internet pioneer Vint Cerf is advising Innovation Labs, a subsidiary of Identity Digital, to establish a shared, open architecture for AI agents. As AI agents move from proprietary systems toward broader, autonomous internet operations, current infrastructure lacks standards for identification and accountability. The initiative proposes using DNS-linked registrations and cryptographic proofs to ensure trust and transparency. Cerf highlights that while the shift toward an agent-based economy is not inevitable, market pressure and user demand for convenience make the development of interoperable standards critical for the future of the internet.
